Intro
So we got a house that has a Heat Pump, all cool and dandy. Then you start to use it on the daily basis and you start to understand how it works, what the operation means for you when you taking a shower.
Suddenly, at some time of the day you may be talking a shower and then COLD WATER gushes down... your reservoir of hot water didn't had time to replenish and then the temperature starts to go down.
Then we learned the tricks and the do's and do nots. But for the most amount of things you can do to organize the daily life and use the heat pump in the "correct" way , you will still miss some.
The NIBE as a company, does a good job on the equipment but a bad job in user experience.
The problem that needs a solution
If you are preparing to go to the shower, you can go from the living room upstairs and have a look on the digital display, and you will get some info:
But then if you are at the shower, or just going to the bathroom to take a shower, you need to know what is the status of the heat pump.
For such I have developed a multi-part project that is under development, as I write this I am on the third phase, still need a last part to accomplish.
So the first one, is to create a method to read the information from the heat pump and for that I could use the developer website from NIBE , where, I can connect the heat pump to the internet and then read information from there.
Then I developed first a reader in Golang, which also provides information in detail about the data extracted from the heat pump.

This project is divided in these parts in my head:
- Part 1: Create a reader that users the myUplink from NIBE, gather information about the heat pump (this blog entry)
- Part 2: Use this app to display information in an LCD via a Raspberry Pi on the Bathroom (that also requires to solder an LCD and build a 3D print STL for the RPI + LCD -- this is another entry on this blog)
- Part 3: The more daring and final part, is to add a humidity sensor to the setup and a 868Mhz radio signaler to turn on the ventilation on demand tomatically
nibe-reader
Go service that polls the myUplink API for NIBE heat pump data and writes it to local JSON files.
What it does
- Authenticates with myUplink using OAuth2 client credentials
- Fetches all device data points every minute (configurable)
- Saves points as JSON to
logs/points_<systemID>_<deviceID>.json, overwriting on each poll - Saves system/device info once at startup to
logs/systems.json - Renews the auth token every 55 minutes (configurable)
Requirements
- Go 1.24+
- A myUplink developer account with a registered application (client credentials flow)
Register at dev.myuplink.com to get a client ID and secret.
